Here's why it's so important to #ShopLocal:
Studies have shown that money spent with Arizona's local businesses stay in the local economy and community longer than money spent with non-local businesses. This extra money in the community is an investment in local job creations. Local businesses contribute to a sense of belonging in a community, which fosters community pride. And when people are proud of their hometown, they also tend to care more, to volunteer more, to vote more and give more. So when you buy local, you're helping to create healthier and happier communities. Locally-owned businesses spend their money in the community; we spend it here; we buy products here and we hire here. So shop local – it makes the most sense.
Business owners share why shopping local is so important:
"Without local customers, I wouldn’t survive. I, as well as other small businesses, count on the people in the area to support my business in order to be successful. Unlike corporate franchises, the money I make stays in the community and helps to build a stronger economy. It’s the mom and pop shops that keep America what it is, a place where individuals can dream and grow."
-Lisa Dowd, A Shot of Java
“Our passion for small, local mom and pop shops is because they are so crucial to our communities. What is spent in this community stays in this community. When you look at the whole picture, corporations might be paying the local people, but the food and the corporate expenses are paid many times outside Arizona and to other states. For us, here at Desert Rose Steakhouse, Pizza, Gastropub & Cigar Lounge almost all the companies we hire are local, meaning when we pay them, and they pay their employees who live here and who spend money here in Arizona. The more you spend with local companies, the more local revenue is generated.”
-Teresa & Pete Outzten, Desert Rose
“Just 9 1/2 years ago, I began living my dream of owning a small business and becoming part of a community where we could create an experience that only comes from the heart of a small business owner. Our local community has been the building block of our growth, and by those customers choosing to shop local, we have been able to give back directly to the economy of Arizona, whether it be by hiring local people to work with us or by purchasing from local suppliers for our needs. Shopping local businesses has a positive impact on the widespread economic development of Arizona for both the consumer and the business owner."
-Linda Moran-Whittley, Papa Ed's Ice Cream
