The Glendale Star
As the old saying goes, “The only things certain are death and taxes.” Then, there’s Father Thyme, whose chili spelled doom for all others at the second annual Glendale Rotary Chili Cook Off. Father Thyme’s chili won the People’s Choice award at the Feb. 24 event, with Glendale Firefighter Charities’ Firehouse Chili coming in second and Knights of Columbus placing third.
Hawthorne Mountain Lodge placed first in the Spirit Award category, with Father Thyme placing second, and Knights of Columbus again claiming third place.
There were 10 judges walking up and down the sidewalk, each taste-testing and observing the chili chefs’ booth decor. But, it was the special flavor and zing they were judging.
Gaining the judges’ top vote was Glendale Chamber of Commerce’s special blend. Second place went to Christy and Bonnie’s Just Chili, while Christian Legal Aid took third place.
Mayor Jerry Weiers proclaimed Feb. 24 as Glendale Rotary Club Day in the city, and also named the club his Charity of the Month for February. It was a successful day, not only for chili aficionados, but for those who donated their time and energy for a fundraiser to help Glendale Rotary Club do its work for the local community and others around the world.
